Bally, the luxury Swiss fashion house, officially opened its King Street store last week. Bally's spectacular debut on Perth's premier shopping street would not have been acheived were it not for the commitment and effort of Mark Jensen, of NRS's Permanent Placement division, who was responsible for the sourcing and interviewing all management and sales staff. Well done Mark!

Perth’s love affair with luxury labels has driven sales to unprecedented levels at King Street’s newest luxury boutique amid talk Ralph Lauren Polo and Chanel are poised to join Perth’s poshest shopping strip. In the five weeks since opening its doors, the legendary Swiss fashion house Bally has nearly sold out several big ticket items, including its $2800 shoe bag and the $1795 Jana handbag. Bally’s stunning King Street debut comes as no surprise to Curtin University economics professor Peter Kenyon, who said it was yet another example of the State’s “rampant” consumerism. “One of the first indicators of when the boom comes to an end will be when that kind of consumption begins to falter,” he said. The lure of WA’s cashed-up shoppers has proved irresistible for legendary Fifth Avenue jewellers Tiffany & Co, which will start selling its unmistakable blue boxes from King Street in July. And with several retail properties vacant on the exclusive strip the rumour mill is running hot about which European luxury label will join this chic clique. Colliers International associate director of retail leasing Richard Cash said several high-profile fashion labels were keen to set up shop in Perth. But with rents understood to be running as high as $4000/sqm on King Street, an address on Perth’s most exclusive shopping strip comes with a luxury price tag. Louis Vuitton established the King Street precinct’s couture credentials with the opening of its store in 1993. It has since been joined by Gucci and Hugo Boss on Hay Street. Last night, Bally cut the ribbon on its King Street boutique with a strictly A-list cocktail party. (Abridged)Taken from www.thewest.com.au 18 May 2008
